Flatdogs Camp is the closest camp to the Mfuwe Main Gate, which provides access to the South Luangwa National Park.
There is a variety of accommodation – including chalet rooms, the Jackal-Berry Tree House and en suite Safari Tents.
The Tree House is built around three live African Ebony trees, and allows for unspoilt views out across the dambo and lagoon system. There are three main decks, some 6 feet (2 metres) off the ground, with decks and stairways to reach the sitting area and the two open-plan, en suite bedrooms. A comfy sofa and two easy chairs on the middle deck are ideal for watching the game wandering past the house. A fridge and honesty bar are provided in the house as well as tea and coffee making facilities.
Three of the four chalets have a downstairs double room surrounded by a cool veranda and an upstairs twin room with a high thatched roof and views of the river. Both rooms have a couch which converts into an extra single bed when needed. Electric fans cool the rooms and large mosquito nets surround the beds. Each bedroom has private bathroom facilities either en-suite or down a short flight of stairs.
There is also a Family House with another three bedrooms, sleeping a total of eight. Both downstairs bedrooms are en suite and there are two further hot showers and toilets for the loft room. There is a new viewing deck upstairs over looking the Luangwa River. The chalets are also equipped with shared kitchenette facilities, for self-catering guests.
The six en suite safari Tents are on the banks of the River, set in the shade of a stand of Mahogany trees. The tents are spacious enough for full sized beds, hanging rack for clothes and small table. The en suite facilities are open air – with hot shower, flush toilet and sink.
