Kaingo overlooks the Luangwa River, in the South Luangwa National Park itself, and enjoys an area of great beauty, and varied terrain. The Lodge offers stylish design, allied with a practical layout. The large centrally located open-sided sitting room includes dining area, library and Kaingo’s renowned leadwood bar.
Accommodation is in 6 brick and thatch chalets (2 honeymoon, and 4 twin chalets), all placed discretely on the banks of the River. Large fly-wired windows provide excellent views of the river; and the complete absence of generator noise (solar power is used) means nothing but the sounds of the hippo interferes with the sounds of a lion’s roar, or the myriad bird songs. .Four of the chalets have outside baths, on the riverbank. All accommodation is en suite. The honeymoon chalets are open to the stars via soaring skylights set into the thatch. In addition, there is a hammock and private sunning area along the riverbank.
A special feature of Kaingo is the wooden deck built out over the river. From this relaxing vantage point set below the central dining area, you get the chance to see game coming down to drink, basking hippos, aquatic birds, crocodiles fishing, and daily elephant crossings.
Meals are delicious, and make the most of fresh farm produce.
With a varied terrain, from a lagoon, to a large ebony forest, and open grasslands, game viewing is excellent, and can be appreciated on game drives and guide walks from Camp. There are two resident prides of lion and number of leopard in the area, and in addition there are hides close to camp, which allow for excellent sightings of elephant and hippo. For birders, there are storks, bee-eater colonies, Pel’s fishing own and swarms of red-billed quelea.
Although you have 3 activities daily, you might choose to spend time in camp, and enjoy some game viewing from the comfort of the deck…
