Chaminuka Nature Reserve, the first private Wildlife Park in Zambia, was licensed in 1979, and is a mere 30 minutes from Lusaka Airport. The Reserve has an abundance of wildlife, with a good variety of plains game/ antelope species, along with lion, and buffalo. Due to the variety of habitat from savannah to forest, to lakes with marsh and reed-beds, Chaminuka is blessed with an excellent number of bird species – some 300.

Accommodation is in thirty separate suites, all with en-suite bathrooms, and air conditioning. Décor is a fusion of contemporary and traditional African themes. The suites are all equipped with a min-bar, TV, and safe. There is also a valet and laundry service available, along with nanny and babysitting services.

Meals are a combination of international and local cuisine, which uses as many organic, locally grown products as possible. Lunches are served at the pool, and takes the form of a barbecue buffet, with a number of Mediterranean influences. Dinners are served in the terraced restaurant, offering a variety of game, and international dishes.

There are a number of lounges/ relaxation areas for guests, including a deck overlooking Lake Chitoka, which is excellent for sun downers. In addition, Chaminuka boasts three libraries, tennis court, sauna, and Jacuzzi.

Activities on offer are varied – morning, afternoon, and evening game drives; guided bush walks; horseback safaris; fishing and boating on the lake, which is stocked with bream, catfish, and Nchenga (akin to whitebait). In addition, you might wish to visit the local villages and schools, the local cheese factory, or take a day trip into Lusaka. There is also the Chaminuka Art Collection, where you have the chance to meet local artists. Or you may just opt to enjoy some health and beauty treatments.
