Chaminuka Nature Reserve, the first private Wildlife Park in Zambia, was licensed in 1979, and is a mere 30 minutes from Lusaka Airport. The Reserve has an abundance of wildlife, with a good variety of plains game/ antelope species, along with lion, and buffalo. Due to the variety of habitat from savannah to forest, to lakes with marsh and reed-beds, Chaminuka is blessed with an excellent number of bird species – some 300.
Accommodation is in thirty separate suites, all with en-suite bathrooms, and air conditioning. Décor is a fusion of contemporary and traditional African themes. The suites are all equipped with a min-bar, TV, and safe. There is also a valet and laundry service available, along with nanny and babysitting services.
Meals are a combination of international and local cuisine, which uses as many organic, locally grown products as possible. Dinners are served in the terraced restaurant, offering a variety of game, and international dishes.
There are a number of lounges/ relaxation areas for guests, including a deck overlooking Lake Chitoka, which is excellent for sun downers. In addition, Chaminuka boasts three libraries, tennis court, sauna, and Jacuzzi.
Activities on offer are varied – morning, afternoon, and evening game drives; guided bush walks; horseback safaris; fishing and boating on the lake, which is stocked with bream, catfish, and Nchenga (akin to whitebait).
